Welcome to the Disaster Recovery and Emergency Preparedness plan. The Town of Canaan, in conjunction with Cornell Cooperative Extension Columbia and Greene Counties has developed a bank of resources to help prepare yourself, your family, your neighborhood and community. Disasters, whether natural or man-made, can occur unexpectedly and have devastating consequences for individuals and communities. In these situations, it is crucial to have a plan in place to minimize the impact of the disaster and recover as quickly as possible.
This plan provides resources and information to help you prepare for disasters and emergencies. It covers a range of topics, from developing a family emergency plan to the multi-faceted relationship between climate change and natural disasters. We also provide information on what to do during and after a disaster, including how to access emergency services and how to start the recovery process.
Our goal is to empower individuals and communities to take proactive steps to reduce the impact of disasters and emergencies. By preparing in advance, we can better protect ourselves, our families, and our communities. We encourage you to explore the resources available on this webpage and take the necessary steps to be prepared for the unexpected.
This project was made possible by a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension Columbia and Greene Counties in partnership with the NYS DEC Hudson River Estuary Program, NY Water Resources Institute and Cornell University with support from the NYS Environmental Protection Fund.
